In the beauty of bitter cold, the GesundLand Vulkaneifel is currently lying quietly in winter beauty between ancient maars and volcanoes. No weather for hiking? Not at all, says GesundLand scout Rainer Schmitz, who particularly enjoys hiking in the rain.

Water is the basis of all life. A gift of nature, which appears in the Volcanic Eifel in many places untouched and pristine. In Bad Bertrich, the elixir of life bubbles up from the mountain spring with 32 degrees of natural heat and supplies the Vulkaneifel Therme with the beneficial Glauber salt water, which makes it the only Glauber salt thermal spring in Germany.

Autumn time transforms the GesundLand Vulkaneifel into a very special hiker's paradise. The forests are bathed in flaming red, intense orange and squeaky yellow. Nourished by a few rain showers, the streams ripple lively through the valleys like never before. You just have to grab your hiking boots and get out into nature!

Where once volcanoes spewed lava and ash, today ice-cold showers ensure health and well-being. Not only volcanism is still bubbling under the earth's surface. The spirit of Sebastian Kneipp is also still alive in the region today.

When I set off from my starting point on this Monday morning for the approx. 9 km hike on the HeimatSpur "Alte Eiche" circular route, I didn't know what to expect. An impressive hiking experience.
