The VulkaMaar Trail: Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2021

The circular trail leads past numerous testimonies of explosive times and holds many a spectacular view in store.
After starting in the Manderscheider Kurpark, the path leads over narrow paths that resemble winding trails down to the Wolfsschlucht (Wolf Gorge) with Horngraben, where the VulkaMaar trail unfolds its full adventure character.
Over mighty basalt boulders, primeval remnants of volcanic activity thousands of years ago, you climb the Mosenberg Volcano Experience Park, where a breathtaking lava cliff stretches several meters into the sky.
After a challenging climb, you will reach the Mosenberg, a unique series volcanic group with two cinder cones and the Windsborn crater lake, the only crater lake north of the Alps.
Depending on the weather, the atmosphere here ranges from misty-mystical to natural-quiet - in any case, an extraordinary oasis of tranquility.
The first stage ends at the Meerfelder Maar, which is located right next to the town of the same name in a huge volcanic funnel.

How deep this funnel is, becomes noticeable at the beginning of the second stage on the ascent to the Landesblick.
The wonderful view from the viewing platform of the Meerfeld far below with its Maar is well deserved after the meters of altitude.
From then on you follow quiet forest sections, which form a wonderful contrast to the eventful first stage.
Particularly beautiful is the section around the Bleckhausener mill, which is located in the valley of the Kleine Kyll.
Finally, you walk through the Lieser valley back to Manderscheid. Along the way, there are several opportunities for a leisurely stop or a relaxing overnight stay.

The VulkaMaar trail combines the explosive past of the Volcanic Eifel in an unmistakable way with its scenic features, making it an outstanding hiking experience that will be remembered.
