The gentle climbs are followed by flat descents through beech forests. It smells of fresh forest air. Birdsong accompanies you on your way past maars and cinder cones. The route runs along the former Daun-Lieser railroad line. A tour on the Maare-Mosel cycle path is probably the most exciting and enjoyable way to discover the landscape between the green volcanic Eifel and the lovely Moselle.
Los geht es in Daun. Der Startpunkt ist problemlos mit dem Auto oder dem RadBus erreichbar. Wer spontan eine Radtour machen möchte, kann sich in Daun ein Fahrrad oder E-Bike ausleihen. Eine erste, wenn auch kleine, Herausforderung: der Anstieg zum Viadukt, der 28 Meter über dem Kurort liegt. Auch für untrainierte Fahrer ist diese Etappe aber gut zu meistern. Die Anstrengung wird selbstverständlich direkt belohnt, und zwar mit einem traumhaften Rundumblick. Nach der Passage des „Großen Schlitzohrs“, einem von insgesamt vier Tunnel der Strecke, geht es unter dem blauen Eifelhimmel vorbei an den Dauner Maaren und anderen Highlights der Vulkaneifel.
