The Sporthotel Grafenwald
Our hosts open their doors for you! This time we were again in the area around Daun on the road. Jennifer Kürsten and Ute Krämer-Engel show us today the largest hotel in the GesundLand Vulkaneifel in terms of beds: The Resort Sporthotel Grafenwald, which is surrounded by the most beautiful Eifel forest in a spacious hotel complex and numerous vacation homes accommodates more than 500 beds.
The Sporthotel Grafenwald convinces above all with its diversity: here, cozy vacation homes for group trips and family vacations are lined up with comfort rooms for a stylish time-out for two. Each house has its very own history, which gives it character and personality. In the case of Sporthotel Grafenwald, this story begins in 1975, when Dr. Herbert Ebertz acquires a huge building plot near Daun-Gemünden, thus laying the foundation for today's vacation park. In 1977 the vacation park Daun is opened. With 580 beds in 143 accommodation units, it was a unique concept that decisively promoted tourism in the region. A lot has happened since then, as Jennifer Kürsten and Ute Krämer-Engel will show us today.
We start with a little tour of the vacation homes. "With 75 and 95 square meters, the vacation homes offer plenty of space for being together with your loved ones, but also enough retreats from the hustle and bustle," Jennifer Kürsten, who manages the hotel on behalf of the hotel, explains to us. The charming vacation cottages are distributed over the entire vacation complex of the Grafenwald and fit as if painted into the green Eifel landscape. They are particularly suitable for family vacations in the Volcanic Eifel, because many of the family excursion destinations in the GesundLand Vulkaneifel are within easy reach from Daun-Gemünden: the Volcano Museum in Da un, for example, or the wildlife park in nearby Daun-Pützborn, or the Brubbel in Wallenborn.
Jenny and Ute swing into their droll Ellimobil - a small vehicle reminiscent of a golf cart and normally used by Grafenwald's housekeeping to get from A to B quickly on the extensive grounds. Next stop: comfort rooms. The rooms were remodeled in 2019 and shine with nature-inspired wood elements, fresh green accents and modern flair. "The highlight, however, remains the very special view of the nature of the Volcanic Eifel," Jenny emphasizes with a glance out of the large windows. "The comfort rooms are real feel-good rooms: generously cut, inviting and modern," adds Ute, who heads the Sporthotel's marketing.
A good portion of wellness is a must for many vacationers in the Volcanic Eifel - whether it's a spontaneous short trip over the long weekend or an extensive break from everyday stress. The Sporthotel offers the complete program for a successful wellness vacation in the Eifel: the swimming pool with adjacent spa bar awaits bathers with a cozy 27 degree water temperature. The relaxation area with panoramic view and the children's pool leave nothing to be desired. The sauna world welcomes guests with a circulation-gentle bio sauna and a tangy, refreshing Finnish sauna. In addition, the steam bath invites you to recharge your batteries and strengthen your immune system. Those who do not want to miss out on sporting activity even on vacation will find numerous opportunities to work out in the fitness studio. The tennis school Markus Merkel is the icing on the cake for tennis enthusiasts.
Not only the practical vacation homes, but also the Kidsclub makes the Sporthotel a great tip for family vacations with children in the Eifel. The activities in the Kidsclub focus on experiencing and discovering nature around the Grafenwald. However, popular family activities in the GesundLand Vulkaneifel are the natural outdoor pools in Gemünden, Meerfeld, Schalkenmehren as well as at the Pulvermaar or the goat cheese dairy of the Vulkanhof in Gillenfeld - here children can take part in a guided tour of the farm and learn how goat's milk is processed into cheese.
The restaurant Grafenwald rounds off the perfect Wohlühl vacation in the Eifel. The gastronomic offer is versatile and varied. "From the large breakfast buffet to lunch, cake specialties in the afternoon to a wide selection of seasonal and regional dishes on the evening menu - guests appreciate that we have everything their culinary heart desires" reports Jenny. The restaurant Grafenwald with adjoining, large sun terrace holds to the palate joys still another marvelous view in the nature of the volcanic Eifel ready. Here, guests dine in a cozy and informal atmosphere.
