Vulkanweg (13) – 6. Etappe

The Volcano Trail (13) connects the eastern and central parts of the Volcanic Eifel in a series of wide loops; it is a hiking trail that winds through the Eifel’s recent and most recent volcanic activity.

From the Rhine, the Volcano Trail leads past Lake Laach, over the Gänsehals with its magnificent views, to the Genoveva Cave in the Hochstein, and through Mayen. It passes nine “Eyes of the Eifel” (water-filled maars), such as the Ulmener Maar, Pulver Maar, and Holz Maar, as well as four dry maars, such as the Strohner Märchen and Dürres Maar, on its way to Manderscheid. Through the Wolfsschlucht gorge over the Mosenberg, past the Windsborner Kratersee and Meerfelder Maar, over the Landesblick to the Bleckhauser Mühle, and through Üdersdorf into the beautiful Liesertal valley with the Lieserpfad trail. Cross the Winkelbach Bridge and head uphill to the Weinfelder Maar, Mäuseberg with the Dronketurm, and past the Gemündener Maar to Daun. Take a wide loop over the Ernstberg with the Martinswand, to Pelm in the Kyll Valley, then uphill again to the Buchenloch Cave and Munterley, and finally downhill to Gerolstein.
