The Vulkaneifel is one of Europe’s most fascinating volcanic landscapes—and you can feel it with every step you take. More than 77 scientifically verified maars characterize the region around Daun, Manderscheid, and Ulmen; twelve of them are filled with crystal-clear water. Whether it’s the famous Daun maars, the deep Pulvermaar, or the only crater lake north of the Alps at Mosenberg—each of these places tells its own story of a past that could hardly be more elusive.
