The 20-kilometer hike from Ulmen to Cochem winds through the wild and romantic Endert Valley and offers a unique and unspoiled experience of nature.

The first highlight is the Ulmen castle ruins, which offer an impressive view of the Eifel’s youngest maar. From here, you’ll hike over the Ulmen Maarberg through the forest to the famous “Antoniuskreuz.” It’s worth taking a detour along the access path into the Kaulenbach Valley, home to Germany’s largest slate dump, located between the Eifel towns of Müllenbach, Laubach, and Leienkaul. An absolute highlight of the route is the waterfall known as the “Rausch.” The roaring waterfall plunges 7 meters into the valley basin—this natural spectacle is truly impressive! A small bridge over the waterfall leads you to the Maria Martental pilgrimage church, which belongs to the monastery of the same name, just a few meters away. The hiking trail winds its way over bridges, past old mills, and along steep slopes. There were once 28 mills here. The path gradually widens and ends in the small Moselle town of Cochem, where the little Endertbach stream flows into the Moselle.
