Bienenlehrpfad Ulmen
Description
Have you always wanted to know how long a bee has to work to produce a jar of honey? How do these hardworking insects communicate with each other? Do bees sting only when they're threatened?
The Kappenberg hill above Ulmen is buzzing and humming. Hardworking honeybees tirelessly search for pollen among the purple heather and orchard meadows. That’s because a few beekeepers have come up with something very special for this idyllic spot: a 1.5-kilometer bee nature trail that illustrates the life and work of these important honeybees. Interactive stations invite you to observe and marvel. Information panels provide fascinating details about bees and beekeeping. Relaxation loungers invite you to close your eyes and listen to the colorful hustle and bustle. And the honey bread tastes especially sweet at the picnic area.
Honeybees are fascinating to watch, and not just when they’re collecting nectar from the many flower calyxes. Protected by a glass pane, you can catch a glimpse of them landing at the beehive, their legs heavily laden with pollen. The entrance to their hives is a hive of activity. The entrances to the hives are strictly guarded; the bees defend their hive in an impressive manner.
