Dauner Eifelverein invites you to a hike in the Gerolsteiner Land

The Eifelverein Daun invites you on Sunday, October 25, 2026, to an adventurous and scenic circular hike through the fascinating earth history of the Gerolstein region.

All interested hiking and nature enthusiasts – including non-members – are warmly welcome to accompany the local group on this autumn tour.
The meeting point for all participants is at 9:30 a.m. at the Forum Daun. From there, carpooling will take you to the common starting point at the Gerolstein reservoir.

The approximately 11 kilometers long tour with about 220 meters of elevation gain in ascent and descent offers impressive insights into millions of years of Eifel geology. The path leads, among other things, through the brightly colored red desert sand near the site of the prehistoric Eifelosaurus find.

Another highlight is the mysterious ice cave, for which a flashlight is recommended for exploration. From there, the hike continues to the striking volcanic crater Rother Kopf, which rewards with an extensive panorama over the Eifel, before the path eventually leads back over the imposing volcanic layers at the Rother Hecke.

For the approximately three and a half hour hike, including breaks, sturdy footwear, weatherproof clothing, and packed lunch are recommended.
After the tour, a joint meal is planned.
For better planning, registration in advance with hike leader Erika Braun is requested, either by phone at 06592 / 7977 or by email at eoff190367@gmail.com.
