The astronomical institute of the University of Bonn built an observatory in 1953/54 on the volcano group "Hoher List" near Schalkenmehren.

The Blümchesaushütte is located in the Liesertal valley in the Eckfeld district, right next to the Urpferdbrücke bridge.

<p>You can see a wooden walkway winding curvily through a forest landscape. The walkway consists of wooden planks about one meter long and five centimeters wide. On the right side, there is a wooden railing. Grasses, some spruce driftwood, and small bushes grow on the ground of the marsh. The Buchenlochhöhle is located in the nature reserve of the Gerolstein Dolomites. The cave was washed out of the rock millions of years ago by the dissolving power of groundwater and is open all year round.
