The spa town of Manderscheid is most famous for two medieval castle ruins that stand directly opposite each other on steep mountain spurs not far from the town's alleyways. The lower castle can be explored on guided tours - even at night - or on your own; it only remains closed in bad weather.

Less of an excursion destination than a spectacular site is the Eckfelder Maar in a side valley of the Lieser about 2 km north of Manderscheid.

In the candle manufactory in the middle of Manderscheid you will find your favorite candles, like the dancing angels or the lava candle from the handwork of the only master wax maker in the district of Trier. During a guided tour of the manufactory you will learn everything worth knowing about this craft.

The Buchenlochhöhle is located in the nature reserve of the Gerolstein Dolomites. The cave was washed out of the rock millions of years ago by the dissolving power of groundwater and is open all year round.
