In 2011, Lena Kravets and Tobias Kassung—both members of the Cologne Classical Ensemble—formed their duo. With their unique combination of cello and guitar, they develop highly original programs and delight audiences with them at concerts throughout Germany.

Their program “Nachtstücke – Nocturnes between Dream and Tango” is dedicated to the music that was cherished as high art in 19th-century bourgeois salons. Romantic nocturnes and adagios by Burgmüller and Beethoven, along with impressionist pieces by Manuel de Falla and Gabriel Fauré, perfectly showcase the intimate sound of the cello and guitar.
With Tobias Kassung’s playful capriccio and Raffaele Bellafronte’s brilliant tango, the duo brings to life not only the contemplative side of the “Nocturnes” but also the exuberant nightlife. And it all culminates in the “Quatre rêves” by the Parisian composer Mathias Duplessy, who has set the exuberant nightlife of the French metropolis to rousing music in his four musical dreams.

Lena Kravets, born in Tashkent, lives in Cologne and works as a freelance musician. She is the principal cellist of the Kölner Klassik Ensemble and a member of the Kravets-Kassung Duo; since 2021, she has also served as artistic director of 8CELLI, a cello ensemble comprising eight outstanding cellists from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Tobias Kassung, a native of Cologne, is regarded as one of Germany’s leading guitarists and a trailblazer in his field. In 2003, he founded the Kölner Klassik Ensemble, of which he remains the artistic director to this day, as well as other chamber music ensembles.
